MADONNA FRIDAY: DEAR JESSIE

Dear Jessie was the fifth single off of the Like a Prayer album, but it was only released in the UK, Australia, Japan and select European countries. The US did not get an official release, instead getting Keep It Together. By far the most sugary sweet of any Madonna song, Dear Jessie was written by Madonna and frequent callaborator Patrick Leonard, inspired by Leonard's daughter, Jessie. The song is more of a lullaby than a pop song, but the theme of it fit perfectly into the Like a Prayer album, sandwiched between the joyous Cherish and the darker Oh Father, which used the string section at the end of Dear Jessie to seque into its own. The song reached #5 in the UK in the winter of 1990. The video for the song features Madonna only in cartoon form, as a short-haired, Tinkerbell-esque character floating through the room and imagination of a little girl. It's really cute, y'all! HAPPY BIRTHDAY, KYLIE MINOGUE!!!

Pop Goddess Kylie Minogue turns 47 today!!! This lady has been entertaining you since you were a child so you better pause, take a moment to thank her and watch these damn videos she worked hard on for you!!! I said "hard on". Kylie started off as a spunky little tv star in Australia until she performed a cover of The Loco-Motion for a television event and everyone lost their shit over it. She was immediately signed to a record contract and the bitch has never looked back. Kylie is as big as Madonna pretty much everywhere in the world except the US. Go figure! HUMPDAY SEXY SONG: LADY GAGA - ALEJANDRO

I mean......this video is Gaga's sexiest and one of the all-time great pop works of art. By the time Gaga released Alejandro as the third single form her EP The Fame Monster she had already set the bar impossibly high. Every video before it was extraordinary and I personally didn't think she could top them. She did. the  8+ minute video for Alejandro is epic. The choreography, the costumes, the story line, the controversial religious/military imagery all come together to create a very, very sexy video and Lady Gaga has never looked better. THAT BODY!! And let's not forget all the half naked boys dancing in heels. COME ON!!!! Without a doubt I believe this is Gaga's hottest effort to date. So hunker down, swallow your rosary and hump the nearest military guy you can get your hands on, because here is Alejandro.

RuPAUL'S VIDEO FOR 'BORN NAKED' AND MY PREDICTION FOR THE WINNER

As per yoosh, RuPaul and the top three queens of the season have made a video for their final challenge. The results are often mixed. Last year featured, IMO, the best video ever produced form the RuPaul and the queens, Sissy That Walk. It's hard to top that, girl. This year Ru picked a remix of the title track to last year's album Born Naked (but the remix from this year's album Realness) and let finalists Pearl, Ginger Minj and Violet Chachki lip sync for their lives all over that shit. While not a one of them have the presence of Bianca Del Rio or Adore Delano from Season 6 (even Darian for that matter), the placement of the queens in the video leads me to believe that Pearl will take the crown for Season 7. Much like the clip for Sissy That Walk in which Bianca seems to appear more and usually last when they show all three queens, I'm feeling that Pearl is our girl. HEY, THAT RHYMES! More proof? Probably not. The video is not nearly as slick or alluring as Sissy, but I see what Ru was going for with the cable access realness effects and low budget extravaganza. I could be wrong about Pearl, but I have a feeling in most of my original bones. Tune in to the finale of RuPaul's Drag Race June 1st to find out who takes the crown...OFFICIALLY!

THE #1 SONG 10 YEARS AGO TODAY WAS.....

.....Hollaback Girl by Gwen Stefani. Gwen was riding high as a kite with her debut solo record Love, Angel, Music, Baby and the third single released form the album was a HUGE hit. Hollaback Girl was a throwback to 80s  pop/rap/dance music and hit #1 on the Hot 100 on May 7, 2005 and stayed there for 4 consecutive weeks. Written with The Neptunes (Pharrell and Chad Hugo), Hollaback Girl is accompanied by a colorful video filmed in L.A. featuring cheerleaders, a marching band and some bad-ass cars. The song was nominated for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance and Record of the Year at the Grammy Awards that year. Work!! Anyway, here is the #1 song from 10 years ago today, Hollaback Girl.  Enjoy!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, STEVIE NICKS!!

You may or may not know it, but Stevie Nicks is an official goddess on earth. I have thus declared. Deal with it. The White Witch of Rock and Roll turns 67 today and I can think of no better reason to celebrate. Stevie has been nailing since the early '70s when she formed a duo with her then boyfriend/musical partner Lindsey Buckingham called Buckingham Nicks (how did they come up with that?) and were quickly snatched up to be a part of Fleetwood Mac. They did all right with them, if I recall correctly. Stevie stepped out on her own in the '80s and charted some classic pop rock tracks that blew my mind and made me want to do pivot turns and wear scarves for L-I-F-E! She's battled drugs, overcome great sadness in her life and put it all down on paper and vinyl to help us through the same things, so you better PRAISE her, y'all!!! Happy birthday, Stevie. MADONNA FRIDAY: FUTURE LOVERS/I FEEL LOVE FROM THE CONFESSIONS TOUR

My favorite opening number to my favorite concert of all time. Madonna's 2006 Confessions Tour was an absolute feast for the eyes and ears and it opened with a bang. Future Lovers also was a standout track on her amazing Confessions On A Dance Floor album and the perfect song to set the tone for the tour and, as an added bonus, Madge mixes it seamlessly with the classic Donna Summer/Giorgio Moroder track I Feel Love. I Feel Love is the precursor to all modern EDM/dance music that we know and love, so it was a no brainer. The mix is brilliant and her entrance to the stage is something to see. The concert film (available on iTunes HERE and SOOOOOO worth purchasing/renting) actually does a great job capturing the feel of the live show. THROWBACK THURSDAY: DURAN DURAN

I hesitated to post a Throwback Thursday about Duran Duran because they are still rocking it out to this very day, but with such a long and rich history, I figured it's okay to do a little looking back. Duran Duran formed in the late 70s in Birmingham, England. Initially considered part of the British New Wave of the early 80s, Duran Duran quickly shed that name and outgrew most of the groups associated with that moniker in both sound and style. To say that they caused a stir when hitting US shores is a gross understatement. Panties were flying and boners were popping up where ever these boys went and their hits flooded the charts. The boys are the ONLY artists to chart at #1 in the US with a Bond theme, 1985's A View To A Kill, and were pioneers in the art of the music video, practically taking over MTV during its formative years. From Rio to I Don't Want Your Love, Come Undone to Reach Up For The Sunrise, Duran Duran assaulted the charts all over the world and inspired musicians ever since their arrival. This fall the men have a new album coming out produced by Mark Ronson and Nile Rodgers. Can't fucking wait!!! RuPaul is the Queen of all queens and in her glamorous new video Modern Love -- taken from, IMO, her best album ever Born Naked -- she does not disappoint, hunty!!! Written by RuPaul and frequent collaborator Lucian Piane, Modern Love is a moody dance track with a strong hook and a message from Mama Ru t'boot. The video is directed by Steven Corfe, is shot in glamorous black and white and stars Ru and Ru alone, girl. Forget all those other bitches, cuz if you can't love yourself, how the hell you gonna love anybody else. Watch the video for the amazing Modern Love. 'SCREAM QUEENS' TRAILER LOOKS VERY RYAN MURPHY-ISH

I mean, I'm still going to give this a try. Emma Roberts seems to be playing the same exact role she played on American Horror Story: Coven (which is the only thing she's ever been good in, so....great?) and at least there's no singing....yet.....but there is something very familiar about this trailer for the upcoming Ryan Murphy show Scream Queens. It's like "I Know What You Screamed On Sorority Row Last Halloween". You know? Yeah, you do. Still, Jamie Lee Curtis looks like a tough-ass bitch in it and Lea Michele is wearing a fucking neck brace, so there are two things I want to see. By the way, I'm just going to go ahead and call it right now: I think Lea Michele is the killer. Why on earth would she lower herself to a second-ranked cast member when we know Ryan Murphy loves her? She ends up being the central figure. DUH!!!!! She's going to pop that neck brace off in the third episode, slip on a vagina-baring skirt and probably belt out a tune while murdering some ho. There. I said it. RuPAUL'S DRAG RACE: A COUPLE OF QUEENS SHOW THEIR TRUE COLORS

SPOILER ALERTS AHEAD: IF YOU HAVE NOT WATCHED LAST NIGHT'S EPISODE, PLEASE DO NOT READ!!!! So called "professionals" Ginger Minj and Kennedy Davenport, along with fellow contestants Violet Chachki and Pearl, were asked the age old question of why they should be America's Next Drag Superstar over the other contestants. Instead of mostly keeping it about themselves -- maybe because Kennedy couldn't think of very many ANY reasons -- these two older, supposedly more mature queens decided it was easier to throw shade and try to throw the two younger competitors under the bus. The things they were saying were unfounded for the most part and just plain nasty. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying that Violet and Pearl are perfect queens, by any means, but they both answered to question in a way they lifted themselves up without putting down their fellow competitors. Watching the episode of Untucked today really drove the point home. Ginger and Kennedy started kissing ass so hard when they got backstage that I thought they were going to suck Pearl and Violet's tucks out. Ginger finally admitted she was nasty on stage, but of course Kennedy -- who used the word CONDONE instead of CONDUCT incorrectly not once but twice during her nasty on-stage tirade "I condone myself in a way..." UGH! -- didn't have any good answers for her behavior so she just got all twisted and blew up. THAT'S mature. And she accused Violet of having a quick temper. Girl, bye. Meanwhile, Pearl and Violet found out exactly what they suspected: Ginger and Kennedy will do and say anything to win. I am pretty sure Kennedy's ignorant speech and nasty attitude are what sent her packing because she clearly nailed the video challenge. Her acting challenge was pretty fucking awful though, as usual. So now it comes down to Violet, Ginger and Pearl. I would be very happy to see Violet win at this point. I used to be Team Ginger, but her true personality really ruined her on each episode of Untucked. Pearl isn't quite the type of queen to rep a brand, in my opinion, but she is something special. Of course, Katya should still be there, but Kennedy ruins everything so she's not. You can watch Untucked below and see Ginger and Kennedy implode. Grace Jones has been giving us life since the days of Studio 54, and today she turns 67! The model/singer/actress/fashion icon and all around crazy person is one of the last surviving and thriving icons of the glittery disco era still kicking it with the avant garde. Jones was born May 19, 1948 in Spanish Town, Jamaica before moving to New York at 13. From there she took the modeling world by storm, eventually moving into a career as a singer, then an actress. She appeared in such films as the camp classic horror Vamp, the Bond film A View To A Kill, Conan The Destroyer and Boomerang. Her biggest hits include her silky disco cover of La Vie En Rose, her ode to butt sex Pull Up To the Bumper and the amazing and classic Slave To The Rhythm. This bitch is FIERCE! Madonna asserts herself as The Queen once again scoring her 45th #1 on the Dance Chart this week with Ghosttown. This makes her the artists with the most #1 hits on any Billboard chart in history. This puts her just ahead of country music legend George Strait who has scored 44 #1s on the Hot Country Chart. I'd say that's pretty good company. "Thanks to all my fans on and off the dancefloor," Madonna said in an exclusive statement to Billboard. "I'll (always) be your partner." MADONNA FRIDAY: BEST PERFROMANCES OF 'VOGUE'

Vogue is arguably Madonna's most iconic single of all time. It is sexy, smart and timeless, as fresh today as the day it was released, March 20, 1990. Vogue brought house music to the mainstream and introduced a dance craze started in the underground drag balls in New York to middle America. There are many, many classic performances of the Vogue and here are, in my opinion, some of the very best. Starting with my favorite performance form her Girlie Show Tour, The MDNA World Tour, Sticky and Sweet Tour, Blond Ambition Tour and finally the classic 1990 MTV Video Music Awards performance. HAPPY MONDAY SONG: JANET JACKSON - SOMEONE TO CALL MY LOVER

A bright and shiny song to start your Monday off. Janet, as you can see from past Happy Monday posts, has no shortage of sunshine to spread, and 2001's Someone To Call my Lover from All For You fits the bill perfectly. Based on a riff from Ventura Highway by America, the infectious ditty rolled through the summer of 2001 like a refreshing breeze and put a smile on the face of everyone who heard it. NEW BETH DITTO (WITH THE SHOES) - SUPERNATURE

Cerrone is a very famous French  disco drummer, composer, record and producer. His main success was during the 70s and he is highly regarded and influential in that time and genre. Recently there have been several remix projects of his music and Beth Ditto and The Shoes have taken part in The Best of Cerrone Productions with the bonus track remix of Cerrone's most famous hit Supernature. Beth nails it, as per usual, and the result is pure disco, EDM heaven. Listen below.

JANET JACKSON SIGNED TO ATLANTIC AND RELEASING ALBUM IN JULY!!!!

YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAS, QUEEN!!! Janet Jackson has been away from the music scene since her 2008 album Discipline, but according to an announced roster from Atlantic Records, Janet has a new album coming July 10th and this news is giving her fans LIFE!!! The album name is to be determined, but I would call it About Damn Time!! Not that Jan has been just sitting around on her ass. She got married to a billionaire and worked with her various charities. In 2013 Janet confirmed she was working with producers Rodney Jerkins, Jean Baptiste and Bangladesh on new music, but that's the last we heard. Let's do this, Janet!! We are thirsty.

Madonna's ballads always seem to get lost in the mix, but we must remember that her longest running #1 of all time is a ballad: Take A Bow.....which is not on my list. Ha. NSFW REALNESS!! Oh, my!!! Cazwell is back with some homo-rific rhymes and a nasty little video for your viewing pleasure. If you're offended by half-naked men grinding on one another and weed: A) I feel sorry for you and B) don't watch this video. HA!! THROWBACK THURSDAY: DOLLY PARTON CRASHES THE POP CHARTS

Dolly Parton is an American treasure and a country music LEGEND, but she also made her dent on the pop charts back in the day. Starting with her 1977 mega crossover hit Here You Come Again, Dolly took her fame even further, appealing to a younger, hipper crowd and moving into movies and television. Here You Come Again hit #3 on the Billboard Hot 100 and showed that Dolly had a wide ranging fan base. The next couple of years followed with some minor pop hits like Baby I'm Burning (#25) and Starting Over Again (#36) then came her #1 pop mega-hit 9 to 5 and Dolly was a mainstream superstar. 9 to 5, the theme song to Dolly's movie with Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin, hit #1 on February 21, 1981, left for two weeks to make room for fellow country star Eddie Rabbit's I Love A Rainy Night, and then took back the top spot for another week. Work, girl! Then in 1983 she hit #1 on the Hot 100 again with the Kenny Rogers duet Islands In The Stream. Ironically, the most pop sounding song she ever recorded, 1983's Potential New Boyfriend, didn't even crack the pop charts but hit #20 on the Country charts. Mind you, during this time she continued to score HUGE on the country charts, the AC chart and around the globe on various charts, not to mention was making big Hollywood movies. This bitch was busy, y'all!! Dolly continued, of course, the put out top quality work and is one of the most beloved artists in American music history. TAYLOR SWIFT ANNOUNCES NEXT SINGLE ON INSTAGRAM

And it looks like it's going to be quite a production. Taylor announced via her Instagram account that Bad Blood will be the next single released from her über-successful album 1989. The song is supposedly a dis track written about her one-time friend Katy Perry, but Tay's lips are sealed. I mean, except for the song she is singing about it. Seems from the pic that we can expect a story video where Taylor plays a character named 'Catastrophe' and music video master Joseph Kahn (everyone's video) is directing. Look for it May 17th at the Billboard Music Awards.

NEW VIDEO: DEJA VU - GIORGIO MORODER FT. SIA

I've already introduced you to the excellent track Déjà Vu from Giorgio Moroder's upcoming album of the same name. Now here is equally excellent and dramatic video for the track. Love this song and the clip lives up to the feel of the track. Sia, of course, is by in the video (quit hiding girl!!!) but her trademark wig makes a very effective appearance....a lot, as does Moroder himself as a limo driver.  Enjoy Déjà Vu. HUMPDAY SEXY SONG: HUNGRY LIKE THE WOLF - DURAN DURAN

Duran Duran is one of the sexiest bands of all time....and one of the most enduring and successful as well. When these Brits hit the States in the early 80s it was mayhem. Girls (and boys) went wild for their slick videos, catchy songs and matinee idol good looks. Hungry Like The Wolf, released in late 1982 and peeking at #3 on the Hot 100, is certainly one of the best know New Wave tracks of the 80s and one of Duran Duran's signature songs. Sexy, sweaty, and animalistic as fuck, the song is matched by the video with shots of the jungle and some hot lady wrestling action, all shot in Sri Lanka. The video one the very first Grammy for Short Form Music Video in 1984. If you listen at the end you can hear the sounds of a woman....well....let's say "having some fun" buried underneath the track. This...ahem...vocalization is much louder on the actual album. I can see why they toned it down for early 80s radio and MTV. Ha. Anyway, her is the über-sexy video for Hungry Like The Wolf by Duran Duran. Hump in the jungle today!!

THE #1 SONG 16 YEARS AGO TODAY WAS.....

...No Scrubs by TLC. I will say this is one of the most addictive sing-along songs of all time. When TLC released No Scrubs I thought it must be about a hot naked doctor, but no. A scrub, by definition, is "a guy who thinks he's fly and is also known as a buster". Does that clear it up for you? You get it. Written by members of the R&B girl group Xscape, Tameeka "Tiny" Cottle and Kandi Burrus, now an Atlanta Housewife, No Scrubs is one of TLC's signature hits and one of the biggest hits of the 90s. It hit #1 on the Hot 100 on April 10, 1999 and stayed for four weeks wedged in between Cher's Believe and Ricky Martin's Livin' La Vida Loca. That is the meat in one of the gayest sandwiches imaginable. No Scrubs was nominated for Record of the Year at the Grammys that year and remained in the top 10 for 24 weeks. The video is directed by Hype Williams and has a futuristic theme. It took home Best Group Video at the MTV Video Music Awards. No Scrubs was a multi-platform, worldwide hit and a classic pop song by any standards. Here is the #1 song from today in 1999, No Scrubs. MADONNA AT THE MET GALA. NEW SINGLE WITH KATY & GAGA?

Madonna made nice with Gaga at the Met Gala and there is even photographic proof!! Madonna posed with Gaga and Katy Perry and Katy even joked about dropping a single with them, Don't play with me, Perry!!! Wearing an edgy Moschino dress emblazoned with the name of her album Rebel Heart, Madonna looked stunning, owning the carpet like the Queen she is with men genuflecting to her at every turn. Duh!!!

JUST BECAUSE: SARAH JESSICA PARKER AT THE MET GALA 2015

SJP always brings it to the Met Ball, a.k.a. Fashion Prom, every year and this year is no fucking exception!!! The theme was China: Through The Looking Glass, and SJP nailed that shit with a flashy headdress by Philip Treacy and a gown by H&M. Now if that headpiece is not on theme I don't know what is. NEW MUSIC: BRITNEY SPEARS & IGGY AZALEA - PRETTY GIRLS

Kind of sounds like Fancy 2, Back and Britney-er. Iggy Azalea has enlisted the help of none other than Britney Spears to release the new song Pretty Girls. While the title is undoubtedly fitting, I am just hearing this for the first time myself so the jury is still out. It's catchy, but there is not a lot of substance to hang your hat on right away. I thought the same thing about Britney's Work, Bitch, and I ended up eating those words. It was delicious. I'll give this a little more time, I suppose. You be the judge.

HAPPY MONDAY SONG: JANET JACKSON - MISS YOU MUCH

Miss You Much was the lead single to Janet's massively successful album Rhythm Nation 1814, and it is also guaranteed to put a smile on your face. Written by her long-time producers Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis, Miss You Much is an upbeat love song about declaring your love for someone who you just can't get enough of. The tune hit #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 on October 7, 1989 and stayed there for four weeks, becoming the first of SEVEN top 5 singles from Rhythm Nation and FOUR #1 singles that spanned over a course of THREE years. Damn, girl!!!! The song is an embodiment of absolute joy every time I hear it. So listen up and put a smile on your face for someone you miss with Miss You Much. SMILE!

So hot!! Hilary Duff is back and she's not fu**king around, you guys. The artist formerly known as Lizzie McGuire is serving neon realness in the sneak peek of her upcoming video for her white hot dance track Sparks. Looking gorgeous and rocking some funky-colored locks, Ms. Duff is sexy as all get out. Can't wait for the full video and hope her album, which has no release date yet. MADONNA FRIDAY: FIRST SINGLES FROM ALL 00 ALBUMS RANKED

We did the 80s: We did the 90s: Now comes the 00s, baby. Madonna released four albums between 2000 and 2009: Music, American Life, Confessions On A Dance Floor and Hard Candy. The all important lead single, the single that gives the listening public a taste of what's to come, can make or break an album. Here are the four lead singles from each album ranked, girl. AGAIN, in determining this ranking I took into consideration not just which was my favorite song, but how well it represented what was in store for the album, sonically and tonally, and the impact it had on me personally during the era of Madonna's career it kickstarted. Suck on these and enjoy your Madonna Friday.
4. American Life (American Life) - While this lead single failed to hit big in the US (#37), around the world it was a pretty massive song. The album, as good and underrated as it is, did not have the same tone as the title track. More somber and acoustic, the rest of American Life leaned a little more on the folksy side and was more introspective than the lead single. The amazing ballad Nothing Fails, one of Madonna's greatest songs of all time, might have been a better choice as lead single. Of course the American Life era is cited as a backlash to the huge success of her previous two albums, Music and Ray of Light, but in hindsight I think critics are realizing what an amazing piece of work it really is. Also, this music video is an absolute masterpiece. It's a shame not many people got to see it.

3. 4 Minutes (ft. Justin Timberlake) (Hard Candy) - While an excellent single, 4 Minutes actually gave a somewhat false impression of the rest of Hard Candy. The album had many good -- even great -- songs to offer, but it just didn't sound like a Madonna album. 4 Minutes seemed almost like a Justin Timberlake song with Madonna guesting on it, but there were so many more "Madonna-ish" singles, like Miles Away or Heartbeat, that could have set up the album better. Instead it was lead by 4 Minutes and followed up by the frantic Give It 2 Me, which is not my favorite, I must admit. The choices for singles did not serve Hard Candy well.

2. Music (Music) - Music, the album and the song, had a lot riding on it. The follow up to Madonna's most critically acclaimed album of her career, Ray of Light, had to be just right, and as a lead single I don't think you could do much better than Music. While maintaining the electronic sound of RoL, Music ushered in a more Euro-pop element that would be very prevalent on the album, but also gave the fans a break from the intense spirituality of the past couple of years and just let them fucking dance!! Yes, there was some deep shit on Music (Gone, I Deserve It, Nobody's Perfect) but we knew that was on the way. Music let us dance while we got ready for it. It also has one of the best SECOND singles of all time in Don't Tell Me. Jeez that song and video are amazing!!!!

1. Hung Up (Confessions On A Dance Floor) - I mean.....come one! Hung Up not only prepared us for a non-stop dance party full of disco-fied gems to come from COADF, but samples one of the greatest songs of the disco era: Gimme! Gimme! Gimme! (A Man After Midnight) by ABBA. Can it get better than that? Not on this list, motherfucker. What followed was an entire album of dance floor perfection, with some pretty deep messages hidden behind the beats. Confessions is definitely one of Madonna's greatest works of her entire career and it was lead off perfectly by Hung Up.
