HAPPY HALLOWEEN!!! SCARY MUSIC VIDEOS FOR YOU TO DEVOUR!

HAPPY HALLOWEEN, WITCHES!! Hope you are having a frightfully good day! See what I did there? Shutever. I tried. To help you get your scary on today I have compiled a few videos that will make you shake your pumpkin-butt. I may be getting a little too old for Halloween, but I refuse to give into society's ideas of age and appropriateness. Plus I want to see what all the hot twinks are dressed up as this year. Slutty superhero? Slutty doctor? Slutty Guardian of the Galaxy? Slut. Anyhoozers.......First up is the scariest bitch in the land, Sharon Needles, with her new Halloween classic, Call Me On The Ouija Board. I dare you not to scare up a shimmy for this one.

Now Natalia Kills -- well -- kills IT with Zombie. This is scary sexy, y'all!!!!

Since I love all you little ghouls and goblins out there so much, here is my fave "scary" song by Leslie Hall ft. Elvira, Zombie Killers Revisited. There are no words to describe how happy this song and video make me. Pure camp-tastic fun. Watch and learn how to kill zombies. By the way, the lyrics left out of the chorus after "shoot them in the brains if you want to live. Shoot them in the brains..." is "even the little kids". Ha. Twisted!!! Watch. Trick or treat!

ALL RIGHT. YOU KNEW THIS WAS COMING, RIGHT? I MEAN, HOW CAN YOU PUT UP VIDEOS ABOUT HALLOWEEN WITHOUT INCLUDING THE SCARIEST VIDEO OF ALL TIME???!!!! I REMEMBER WHEN I WAS A KID AND I SAW THIS, IT SCARED THE B'JESUS OUT OF ME FOR MONTHS!!! I STILL PEE A LITTLE WHEN I WATCH IT. DON'T TELL ANYONE, UNLESS THEY LIKE BEING PEED ON. THEN GO AHEAD AND TELL THEM I GUESS. THE SPECIAL EFFECTS ARE STILL PRETTY GOOD EVEN TODAY. SIT BACK, RELAX AND ENJOY THRILLER. HAPPY HALLOWEEN!!

MADONNA FRIDAY: HAPPY HALLOWEEN!! MADONNA'S GHOSTLIEST SONG ' SUPERNATURAL'

There are lots of rare or unreleased Madonna songs out there, but this song is the Halloween-iest of her gems. Supernatural was released on the compilation Red Hot + Dance, an album that raised funds for AIDS research and relief, though on that album it was in remix form. This is the original version that appeared as a B-side to the single Cherish. It was originally recorded during the sessions for True Blue. I love this song. It finds Madonna being visited by a ghost who becomes her lover. It's fun and campy with lyrics that wonder, if Madonna made love to this spirit would she have a "ghost baby". Ha. Oh, Madge. Anyway, for you Halloween listening pleasure, here is Supernatural in it's original form and, as a bonus, a recent remix Supernatural (Guyomes Supaduppa Remix) Happy Madonna Friday!

THROWBACK THURSDAY: CULTURE CLUB

Ah, the 80s. Our collars were popped, our pants were rolled and family values were abundant. Oh, and Boy George was not gay. HA!! People actually fell for that for a while. Even after he called himself a drag queen while accepting the Best New Artist award at the Grammy in 1984! But I need to go back a bit. Culture Club was born out of London's club scene in the early 1980s. Boy George had sung with Bow Wow Wow for a while and upon leaving the group wanted to form his own. With an Irish transvestite as the lead singer, a black guy on bass, an Anglo-Saxon on guitar and keyboards and a Jewish drummer, naturally they came up with the name Culture Club. It didn't take too long for the band to get attention and they were signed by Virgin Records. Their first album, Kissing To Be Clever ( #14 US,  #5 UK), was a huge, worldwide hit and spawned the hit singles Do You Really Want to Hurt Me (#2 US, #1 UK), Time (Clock of the Heart) (#2 US, #3 UK) and I'll Tumble 4 Ya (#9 US) . Culture Club was the first band to have three top ten hits in the US off of a debut album since The Beatles. Not too shabby. In 1983 the band released the follow up album, Colour By Numbers ( #2 US,  #1 UK), and continued their streak of hits with Church of the Poison Mind (#10 US, #2 UK), their biggest single  Karma Chameleon (#1 US, #1 UK), Victims (#3 UK), Miss Me Blind (#5 US) and It's a Miracle (#4 UK, #13 US). It was around this time that the band started to implode. Boy George was heavy into drugs and his (secret) relationship with drummer John Moss was going south fast. By the time Culture Club released Waking Up with the House On Fire (#26 US, #2 UK) in 1984, they were barely holding it together. The only true hit single on the album was The War Song (#17 US, #2 UK) while The Medal Song (#32 UK) and Mistake No. 3 (#33 US) barely scraped the Top 40. The album was a disappointment only selling 2.7 million copies worldwide. Their 1986 album From Luxury to Heartache (#32 US, #10 UK) was recorded with George in the throes of heroin addiction and was a very difficult process. Producer Arif Mardin had to leave halfway through the process due to prior commitments and George's inability to record tracks. They did manage one hit off of the album with Move Away (#12 US, #7 UK), but From Luxury to Heartache only sold 1 million copies worldwide ultimately and George quickly entered rehab for his drug addiction. The band broke up. The band has reunited a couple of times, even producing another UK hit with I Just Wanna Be Loved (#4 UK) in 1998. George has battled drugs throughout his time in the spotlight, but has also enjoyed some solo success, most recently with his 2013 album This is What I Do (#33 UK). Culture Club is one of the most recognizable, successful bands of the 80s and has left an indelible mark on pop culture musically and visually. Here are some of my personal favorite Culture Club tracks, including their song from the amazing 80s movie Electric Dreams, Love Is Love. Enjoy and bow down to 80s!!

REVIEW: TAYLOR SWIFT - 1989

Taylor Swift has officially gone pop. I mean, come on. Wasn't she always pop? Sure, a country twang snuck in, but the thing that strikes me is that the songwriting on 1989 is the same as her other albums, they are just to a different beat. And that's a good thing!!! 1989 is the year this bitch was born, y'all!! And just barely: December 23, 1989. We are all old! There is definitely some 80s influence on this album, especially with album opener, the excellent and anthemic Welcome to New York, but this is not a retro album. What this album IS is confessional. Taylor always writes about her life and, frankly, that is what makes her music so popular and entertaining. There are juicy songs about relationship troubles like the synth-soaked Out of the Woods; the biting Bad Blood, a song supposedly about her feud with Katy Perry; and even songs about hopeless romanticism like Blank Space. Taylor writes with some pretty heavy weight pop names here: Max Martin (Britney, Pink, Katy Perry), Shellback (Pink, Britney, Usher) , Ryan Tedder (U2, Adele, Beyonce), singer/songwriter Imogen Heap, and Fun's Jack Antonoff. This makes for an album of many influences, but surprising cohesiveness. The possibility for singles is staggering; the pulsing Style is a definite highlight and the gorgeous All You Had To Do Was Stay is a genius title and continuation of Taylor's personal stories of love and heartbreak. This is not just an experiment of some country girl playing in the pop world, this is a genuinely inspired pop record. Of course, first single Shake It Off already hit #1 and she hasn't even had to officially release a second single yet. Interestingly there are a couple of obvious modern influences, like the Lana Del Rey whisper of Wildest Dreams, which finds Swift crooning and scooping her notes so perfectly that I had to check if Lana wrote the song. She didn't. This, again, is not a complaint. The results are quite lovely. There is also influence from another young singer that is a friend of Taylor's, Lorde. I Know Places is VERY Lorde and could easily fit on Heroine, her debut. Of course it would be easy to label Swift a copy cat, but to dream that artists are not inspired or influenced by their contemporaries is ludicrous. Another highlight would have to be the absolutely breathtaking This Love, written solely by Swift. Soft, floating and airy, This Love has GOT to be a single, y'all. The album closes with the Imogen Heap assisted Clean, a song heavily influenced by the singer and it features Heap on backup vocals. It's a dramatic end the first album in a new era for Taylor Swift. 1989 delivers exactly what was promised, a more pop Swift.

TAYLOR SWIFT PERFORMS 'OUT OF THE WOODS' ON JIMMY KIMMEL LIVE

Taylor Swift's new album 1989 comes out Monday. Here is her live performance of the addictive Out of the Woods on Jimmy Kimmel Live.

MADONNA FRIDAY: LA ISLA BONITA

Madonna loves a Latin beat. She's had many songs inspired by latin flovor such as Borderline, Spanish Eyes, Love Makes the World Go Round, Deeper and Deeper, Take a Bow, You'll See, etc etc etc, but her most successful song in that genre, in my opinion, has to be La Isla Bonita. From her 1986 album True Blue, La Isla Bonita was the fifth and final single released on February 27, 1987 reaching #4 on the Billboard Hot 100, #1 on the Hot Dance Singles Sales chart and #1 in the UK, Canada, France, Germany, Switzerland, Belgium, Austria and the Eurochart for three weeks, becoming Madg'es fourth #1 on that chart. It is noted as the first heavily Latin influenced single by Madonna. Clearly one of Madonna's favorite among her back catalog, La Isla Bonita has been performed on almost all of her tours in different arrangements. The song has stood the test of time, feeling as fresh today as it did in 1986, and remains a favorite among Madonna's fans. FUN FACT: La Isla Bonita was previously written as a lament for the mythical Spanish island called San Pedro and was offered to Michael Jackson for his Bad album, but was turned down by Michael. While working with Patrick Leonard on the True Blue album, Madonna accepted it in Jackson's place and re-wrote the song's lyrics. The rest is history. So now, enjoy the "tropical..island breeze" of La Isla Bonita.

JESSICA LANGE'S FULL PERFORMANCE OF LANA DEL REY COVER ON AMERICAN HORROR STORY

I mean.....GENIUS!!! Last night Jessica Lange, aka Elsa Mars, sang her much hyped Lana Del Rey cover of Gods & Monsters on American Horror Story: Freak Show, and she nailed it!! Lana Del Rey's music fits frighteningly well on this season, so Jessica had to look no further than her lyrics for inspiration. Of course, they left out the most controversial lyric for this broadcast. The second verse normally starts out, "In the land of Gods & Monsters I was an angel looking to get f**ked hard". Demure. I guess even FX can't get away with that. Ha. This season of AHS is kind of awesome so far. Is it weird that I'm attracted to Dandy? I don't think I'm supposed to be. Anyhoozers, enjoy!!

SIA RELEASES POP VERSION OF SONG FROM "ANNIE"

Sia may not be showing her face lately, but bitch's voice is all over the place!! Will Smith, Jada Pinkett-Smith and Jay-Z are ruining producing Annie for the next generation with an updated and unnecessary remake coming out December 19th starring the Oscar nominated Quvenzhané Wallis and Oscar winner (I still can't with that) Jamie Foxx. (It's not negative if I cross out words, right?) Willow Smith was originally going to star a few years ago, but since her voice makes Rihanna sound like a soprano, things didn't work out. Anyway, I don't know if it's just this one song, but one of the musicals highlights, You're Never Fully Dressed Without A Smile, is getting a pop music version for release, and I have to say it's quite charming. Sia is kind of fantastic, so I guess this shouldn't come as a big surprise. Listen below and watch the not-so-charming video. It's fine, but do we really have to watch Hollywood ruin Annie? C'mon! Not Again-i!! See what I did there?

BETTE MIDLER'S COVER OF THE TLC SONG "WATERFALLS" IS HERE!!

Bette Midler is putting out her album It's The Girls, her salute to girl groups, on November 4th. While most of the songs concentrate on 60s girl groups like The Supremes, The Chiffons and such, there is one surprise: TLC!! Bette does a lovely cover of the groups signature 1995 hit Waterfalls and she Bettes it up real nice!! What a DIVINE surprise. Listen below and preorder It's The Girls now on iTunes. Don't worry, she doesn't do the rap!!!

HUMPDAY SEXY SONG: SADE - NO ORDINARY LOVE

Sade releases almost exclusively baby-making music. This girl has helped more women get pregnant than IVF, bitch! Thank Gaga the gays can't reproduce. Sade has had so many sexy hits it was hard to pick just one for you to hump to today, but I have come through, kids. Here is, arguably, Sade's sexiest number, No Ordinary Love. I mean this song is so sexy it was used in Indecent Proposal to give Woody Harrelson a woody so he could try to keep Demi Moore off Robert Redford's rich, old pole. It didn't work, but still, it was a valiant effort. No Ordinary Love was the lead single from Sade's fourth album, 1992's Love Deluxe, and has become one of her signature tunes. It wasn't her biggest hit on the charts, but it has definitely stayed around longer and cemented it's place in the sexy hall of fame. The song also won Sade a Grammy for Best R&B Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocals. That's specific. Anyway, grab onto to the closest thing you can hump and get ready for some mermaid realness from the video. Here is Sade's No Ordinary Love. Hump a seashell crab. I don't know. Also, how gorgeous is this woman!!!!

NEW GWEN STEFANI SONG AND VIDEO: BABY DON'T LIE

WHAT? I had no idea this video was coming. Yay!! I love Gwen!! Back with her first solo effort since 2006's Sweet Escape, Gwen serves up some Wizard of Oz, yellow brick road realness in the video for the moody, excellent new single Baby Don't Lie, written by Stefani, Ryan Tedder, Benny Blanco and Noel Zancanella. I really like it and Gwen looks great. Anyway, here it is!!

SNIPPET OF AMERICAN HORROR STORY'S LANA DEL REY COVER LEAKS. AND IT'S.......

Gods & Monsters from Born To Die: The Paradise Edition. Damn!! Why didn't I guess that? It's an obvious choice, even just by the name. As you know, AHS has been doing covers of modern songs inexplicably set in 1950's Florida this season. Because everything else on AHS makes so much sense, right? They've already done David Bowie's Life On Mars and Fiona Apple's Criminal, but now Jessica Lange is tackling Del Rey in a beautifully twisted way. Well, I guess Lana is already beautifully twisted, so it's just a cover. Deal with it. Watch the leaked snippets, apparently from Venezuela, below. American Horror Story: Freak Show is on Wednesday nights at 10 on FX.

MADONNA'S BLOND AMBITION PONYTAILS SELLS BIG AT AUCTION. REALLY BIG!!!

Remember Madonna's Blond Ambition Tour looks? You don't? F**king educate yourself, you ignorant bitch. Too harsh? It was all Jean Paul Gaultier bustiers, head mic, sexy male dancers. Well once piece of that equation, the iconic blond ponytail that sat atop her head for the majority of the tour (she swapped it for tight curls towards the end) just sold at the Profiles in History auction in California for a whopping $20,000. Boom! It was expected to bring in 3,000 to 5,000, but these bitches didn't know who they were dealing with. Okerrrrrr?!! In other news, my old hair is somewhere in a dumpster on 53rd Street and Mariah Carey has started stockpiling weaves.

REVIEW: ANNIE LENNOX - NOSTALGIA. PLUS LIVE PERFORMANCE OF GEORGIA ON MY MIND.

It makes sense that Annie Lennox would nail a song like I Put A Spell On You. After all, isn't the song Lennox is arguably best known for,  the Eurythmics' classic Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This), an update of sorts of the Spell? As a matter of fact, there isn't one song on Annie's new album, Nostalgia, which is made up of songs from her youth and most the Great American Songbook, that her voice doesn't float over with ease. This is not exactly a party record, but at 59 and with a storied career trailing in her wake, Lennox has MORE than earned the right to croon her way through 45 minutes of her favorite tunes. You've got them all here: Classics by Hoagy Carmichael, George Gershwin, Duke Ellington and many more. Opening the album with an old Victrola sounding recording of Carmichael (I think) singing Memphis In June, Lennox covers the song is lush strings and cooing vocals to set the tone for Nostalgia. Georgia On My Mind is given a treatment -- and don't let this dissuade you from listening -- of a classic Air Supply or Styx soft rocker. I know that sounds weird, but shut up and listen to it. Her soft, controlled Summertime is perhaps the best version of this ubiquitous song I have ever heard from a modern recording artist, and Strange Fruit, co-written and made famous by none other than Billie Holiday, retains every bit of its eerie presence as Lennox mournfully sings about the lynchings of African Americans in the South in the early part of the 20th century. You Belong To Me, The Nearness of You and, well, all of the tracks are beautifully arranged and performed and, even though outside of Annie's usual boathouse, sit perfectly on her golden voice. Nostalgia is a glorious addition to her varied, eclectic catalog and is sure to please any (adult) listener out there. A wonderful new classic from the first lady of Blue Eyed Soul. Enjoy a live performance Georgia On My Mind below.

TAYLOR SWIFT'S TWO PREVIEW SONGS FOR 1989 ARE NAILING IT

Taylor Swift got me with her last album, Red. It was catchy, smart and full of interesting songs. I thought that would be it, but I don't know how to quit you, Taylor Swift. While I did not like first single Shake It Off, I have to say that the second song to be released in full (though not an official single) Out of the Woods and now the preview for Welcome to New York have me all aflutter for Tay's new album!!! She's left country far behind and is sounding very 80s new wave on these tracks. Are you excited? Check them out below. 1989 is out October 27th, so you only have a week to go!!! We can make it.

HAPPY MONDAY SONG: SPICE UP YOUR LIFE

I mean, how happy is this song, right? Spice Girls aren't exactly known for somber, indie tracks, but this song has butterflies flitting out of it's a-hole to get your rump shaking on a Monday morning. Released October 13, 1997, Spice Up Your Life was the first single off of the girls' second album, Spiceworld. Perhaps the happiest thing about this song, at least for their fans, is that most critics had their knives sharpened for a backlash and gave the song bad reviews, but the bright, Latin-inspired ditty danced its way into the hearts of millions and helped Spiceworld go on to sale 20 million albums worldwide and made their movie, Spice World, a huge success. Spice Up Your Life was their fifth consecutive #1 single in the UK, debuting at the peak position and knocking Elton John's Candle In The Wind 1997 from the top spot. So here it is, the reason to get up and shake your booty this Monday morning. Enjoy!

MADONNA FRIDAY: MY FAVORITE NON-SINGLE TRACK FROM EVERY MADONNA ALBUM

You're welcome! In case you are not a die-hard Madonna fan like myself, you may not know some of these songs. Well, mo'fo', you're about to get educated. OOOH, I love me when I get all rough. I would like to share with you my favorite tracks from each of Madonna's thirteen albums (I'm including I'm Breathless because everyone should) that was not released as a single.  Starting with her self-titled debut album, Physical Attraction is a sexy, girlish come on that was somehow not deemed appropriate for radio. From Like A Virgin I always really, really love Stay. It was adapted from a song Madonna wrote a few years before and closes out the album with a sexy urgency. White Heat is a standout track from True Blue, using old school gangster movies as a metaphor for love. The confessional tone of Like A Prayer yielded the beautiful, heartbreaking, emotional ode to Madonna's mother Promise To Try. I'm Breathless: Songs from and inspired by the film Dick Tracy opens with a bang thanks to the sassy, sexy He's A Man, a torch song for the ages, that fits right in with the songs penned by Stephen Sondheim for the film. Erotica was packed full of potential singles, but the most surprising omission for chart consideration is the brazen, tough Bye Bye Baby. Bedtime Stories contains one of Madonna's most luscious ballads ever with Forbidden Love. An electronic ballad (maybe the first) called Little Star holds a special place on Ray of Light as it was written about her then newborn (now 18 year-old) daughter, Lourdes. Even Madonna didn't understand why her record label wouldn't release the amazing Impressive Instant from the album Music, so she refused to promote any more singles from the album. Nobody Knows Me seemed obvious for release off of American Life, as did Forbidden Love (not to be confused with the track from Bedtime Stories) from Confessions on a Dance Floor, but both were passed over for other singles. 2008's Hard Candy had a slew of urban-friendly radio hits-in-waiting, but possibly the best was the Kanye-assisted, Pharrell produced Beat Goes On. Finally the raw power of Addicted from MDNA, in my opinion, should have been the album's first single. Okay, I hope I opened your eyes to some Madonna deep cuts. Listen below!!! Happy Madonna Friday!

JUST BECAUSE: FLORRIE - SEASHELLS

I am currently addicted to this song!! I wake up to it every morning and it really puts a hitch in my giddyup. Florrie is a wonderful combination of singer/songwriter/drummer and model! She's gorgeous!! Like gorg-Washington gorgeous. I've written about her before y'all! Seashells is my jam, now fucking make it yours!!! Watch the video and try not to shake your ass-parts to this song. Seashells is on Florrie's current EP Sirens, available on iTunes by clicking HERE.

THROWBACK THURSDAY: SHEENA EASTON

I LOVE SHEENA EASTON!!! There, I said it. I think she has a great voice and is sexy and turned it out in the 80s, bitch. I love how she started off an innocent and wide-eyed Scottish lass and then became a slutty little minx who canoodled with Prince. Yeah, PRINCE!!! Sheena had some of my fave hits from the 80s and continues to perform to this very day. She has starred on Broadway (Man of La Mancha and Grease), had parts in several television shows (Miami Vice, Highlander) and appeared in films (All Dogs Go to Heaven). Easton also has been a big star in Vegas at the Hilton and was inducted into the Casino Legends Hall of Fame in 2004. Among the accolades she has won over her career she has won two Grammys, in 1981 for Best New Artist and in 1985 for Best Mexican-American Performance for a duet with Luis Miguel. She is the only performer to record a James Bond theme (For Your Eyes Only) AND appear in the iconic opening sequence for the film because she's so darn pretty. It's fun to be pretty. Here are some oldies but goodies by Sheena Easton. Enjoy!!

HUMPDAY SEXY SONG: BILLY IDOL - CRADLE OF LOVE

Billy Idol, in my opinion, is one of the all time sexiest rock stars. He has that bad boy thing going on and that devilish smirk. In 1990 Idol decided to amp up the hotness with the song and video for his smash (#2) hit Cradle of Love. One of the most memorable videos of all time -- a young girl seducing a nerdy neighbor -- unfolds in a stylish, classic MTV clip directed by none other than David Fincher (Se7en, Fight Club, The Social Network, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo). I mean, how hot is this video, y'all? The song is obviously about cradle robbing, so the idea for the video wasn't too hard to come by, I'm sure. Both humorous and naughty, the clip is like a nerd's dream come true. By the way, the reason Billy is only shown from the waist up  is because he was still recovering from a horrible motorcycle accident and was unable to walk. Poor Billy. I still would. A gimpy Billy is better than no Billy at all. Am I right, ladies? Anyhoo, get your day started right and watch this sexy, sassy video. Happy Humpday! Hump things only that can legally consent.

The Divine Ms. M's ode to her favorite girl groups of all time will include hits by The Supremes, The Chiffons, The Andrews Sisters, The Marvelettes and many more. The first official full release is her fantas-great cover of The Ronettes' Be My Baby. Bette's voice was made for these types of songs and she sings right from the kitty on this ditty. THE #1 SONG 15 YEARS AGO TODAY WAS.......

.......Heartbreaker by Mariah Carey. Mariah Carey ain't what she used to be. I have been saying this for about 20 years. Whadayagonnado? But this day in 1999, Mariah was on top. Her 7th album, Rainbow, yielded her 14th #1 song, Heartbreaker, and also ushered in a new form of torture for music listeners; female pop songs with guest rap artists. MAKE IT STOP!! In this case, Carey collaborated with none other than Jay-Z and, like it or not, it was the very first commercial single by a solo artist with a guest rapper to hit #1 in the US and now there have been a trillion. WHY, MARIAH???? Heartbreaker also had a very expensive, Brett Ratner directed video that featured everyone's worst nightmare....two Mariah Careys! Again, WHY? I guess since the song went more R&B/hip hop she decided she needed to find the whitest person on earth to play her boyfriend. Enter Jerry O'Connell. Oh, and it's ripped off from inspired by Grease. Okay. Anyway, Heartbreaker hit #1 on October 9, 1999 and spent two weeks at the top.  Here is the #1 song from this day in 1999, Heartbreaker.

MADONNA FRIDAY: THE ORIGINAL, UNCENSORED "AMERICAN LIFE" VIDEO

American Life came out right when we were about to go to war in Iraq. The video that Madonna created for this song involved Madonna and group of tough looking female dancers dressed in fatigues dancing while on a runway, models dressed as soldiers, some of whom have amputations, and middle-eastern children parade in front of cameras and a President Bush look-alike. Madonna and the dancers drive a car onto the runway and throw a grenade at Bush, who catches it and it turns out to be a lighter with which he lights a cigar. Well people lost their FREAKIN' minds!!!! Madonna was accused of being un-American and pro-Iraq. She was labeled a traitor. With all the political heat going on in the country, Madonna decided to withdraw the video before it aired in the U.S. and replaced it with a tamer, (frankly) boring video. It's a shame because her REAL statement was about peace and how the war was being paraded out as if you were un-American if you were for peace! The video and the song are both brilliant. Very Euro-pop and ahead of their time. And don't jump on the "Madonna shouldn't rap" train because she's done it before. Remember Vogue? Anyway, the song all but died in the U.S. due to mass hysteria over nothing, peaking at #37, but everywhere else in the world it was a huge success. The song reached #1 in five countries and top 10 in thirteen more, including #2 in the UK. Madonna later released the following statement about the song and video, "I feel lucky to be an American citizen for many reasons - one of which is the right to express myself freely, especially in my work. I understand that there have been reports about my upcoming video "American Life" in the media - much of which is inaccurate. I am not Anti-Bush. I am not pro-Iraq. I am pro Peace. I have written a song and created a video which expresses my feelings about our culture and values and the illusions of what many people believe is the American dream - the perfect life. As an artist, I hope that this provokes thought and dialogue. I don't expect everyone to agree with my point of view. I am grateful to have the freedom to express these feelings and that's how I honor my country." Watching the video now, nothing about Iraq even springs to mind. It's actually just a very cool song and video that deserves it's place in the lexicon of her music. Enjoy the controversial video for American Life.

THROWBACK THURSDAY: STACEY Q

In 1986 Stacey Q released one of the most infectious and recognizable hits of the 80s, Two of Hearts. The song is bright, bouncy and soooooo much fun. In short, it's the tits. Two of Hearts rose to #3 on the Billboard Hot 100 and was also a success in Australia where it reached #7 on the ARIA chart, #2 in Canada and #1 on the US Hot Dance Music/Maxi Singles Chart. This song was so popular that Stacey even landed a role on The Facts of Life playing Cinnamon, a singer Tootie was competing with to get a part in a Broadway show. (Because obviously if you wanted to be on Broadway you would sing a breathy pop song...duh!)  Watch that totally believable situation HERE. Anyway, I am STILL to this very day obsessed with this song and when it comes on my iPhone I always have to play it again at least once, and by once I mean thrice!! While Stacey Q had a couple of other hits (We Connect [#35] and Don't Make a Fool of Yourself [#66]) she never quite connected to the broad audience she reached with Two of Hearts. Doesn't matter. People still love this song today. I personally loved Stacey Q's album Better Than Heaven and listened to it until it fell apart. The girl's got spunk! In 2010 Stacey Q embraced her Facts of Life past and released a pretty good album of dance music called Color Me Cinnamon (reviewed HERE). See what she did there? Anyway, here are some of my favorite Stacey Q songs for you to set your eyeholes on for a few minutes. They're super catchy and you'll love them. The last video is a pretty awesome live performance of their song Insecurity live (for real) from the Joan Rivers Show. Howie Mandel was guest-hosing. HAHAHAHA!! 80s. Watch and wiggle.

BBC MUSIC LAUNCHES WITH AN ALL-STAR CAST TO SERENADE THEM. SERIOUSLY, HUGE!

BBC Music, a new British music channel, is launching and to kick things off right they gathered an unprecenedented array of talent to help start it off with a bang. Not since We Are The World or Do They Know It's Christmas has a group of artists of this caliber been gathered together. Singing the classic Beach Boys tune Gold Only Knows, we have -- here we go --  Pharrell Williams, Emeli Sande, Elton John, Lorde, Chris Martin, Brian Wilson, Florence Welch, Kylie Minogue, Stevie Wonder, Eliza Carthy, One Direction, Paloma Faith, Chrissie Hynde, Jamie Cullum, Dave Grohl, Sam Smith and several musicians and Brit singers. (Full list HERE with details) Wow! And it's a lovely production. Watch and love.

MORE NEW PHARRELL: VIDEO FOR "GUST OF WIND"

Pharrell Williams just released a video for It Girl last week, Marilyn Monroe came out in April, and now we are getting the fall-infused, modern dance filled Gust of Wind. Our giant hat runneth over. One of the highlights of Pharrell's album, G I R L,  Gust of Wind brings cool, brisk strings and some electronic feel from collaborators Daft Punk. TRAILER FOR BETTE MIDLER'S NEW ALBUM "IT'S THE GIRLS"!!!!

I MEAN!!!!!!! Bette Midler is coming back to your ear holes with her first album in eight years, her tribute to girl groups It's The Girls. I'm not sure this video is a final product or meant to be seen yet, but someone got their grubby little hands on it and put it on youtube, so I'm sharing!  Watch and love!!! The album is out November 4th! UPDATE: Someone indeed must have snatched it because it's gone. Here is the official trailer. Enjoy it now.

THE #1 SONG 31 YEARS AGO TODAY WAS.....

....Total Eclipse of the Heart by Bonnie Tyler. You know, just one of those understated Jim Steinman ballads. Welsh singer Bonnie Tyler had only hit the US charts once before in 1977 with her smash hit It's A Heartache (#3) so no one expected it when she came blowing back onto the charts with one of the most iconic, dramatic power ballads of all time, Total Eclipse of the Heart. The song was written by Steinman, known for similar work with Meatloaf and Air Supply, and became the biggest career hit for Tyler when it reached #1 on the Hot 100 on October 1, 1983 and stayed there for four weeks. It was the sixth biggest hit in the US in 1983. The video, like the song, is a over-sized, nonsensical joyride of craziness. Bonnie is some sort of boys' school official at a boarding house for scantily clad artsy twinks. One of them has a nasty eye infection it appears. It really makes no sense at all, but who cares? Not I. Watch, love and eclipse something. Here is the #1 song from this day 31 years ago, Total Eclipse of the Heart. BONUS!! Watch the video and then the hysterical LITERAL VIDEO version just below. You'll laugh 'til you stop.

MADONNA'S BEDTIME STORIES WAS RELEASED 20 YEARS AGO TODAY!

20 years ago today Madonna took a step back from the overt sexuality and a step toward electronica. After the supposed failure and backlash that accompanied her hyper-sexual period in the early 90s with the album Erotica, the Sex book and the film Body of Evidence, Madonna was ready to take it back to the music and focus more on her dance and R&B roots. (By the way, Erotica sold 6 millions copies worldwide, so failure? I think not) Madonna was looking to soften her image up a bit and enlisted producers Babyface, Nellee Hooper and Dave "Jam" Hall to give her a more urban, New Jack Swing sound on her upcoming album. The result is the criminally underrated Bedtime Stories. For some reason it seems people often forget about this album, being sandwiched between the controversy of Erotica, the theatrical triumph of Evita and the spiritual awakening of Ray of Light. Bedtime Stories is packed with not only great music, but also some very personal and emotional songs, not to mention some foreshadowing of the electronic music that would steer all of Madonna's late 90s/early 00s output. The album did perform well commercially, eventually selling over 7 million worldwide, but because of its subtlety it is often overlooked. The songs on Bedtime Stories range from New Jack Swing, R&B to electronic. The first single released was the excellent Secret in September of 1994 just before the album's release. A smooth R&B groove drives the song along and it was a major radio hit, peaking at #3 on the Hot 100. Of course, it wasn't really until second single, Take a Bow, was released that the album really took off. Written and recorded with Babyface, the ballad was Madonna's first #1 single since 1992's This Used to Be My Playground and it held the top spot for 7 weeks, Madonna's longest running #1 single to date. The album's sales began to rise again and the next single was the Bjork-penned electronic song Bedtime Story. A startling departure from any previous Madonna single, Bedtime Story was electronic, stark and surreal. The accompanying video is still one of her most eye-catching. While not a hit on the Hot 100 (#42) the song did top the Hot Dance Club Play chart and hit #4 in the UK and #5 in Australia. Definitely a precursor to Ray of Light, you can tell Madonna is comfortable in the genre. The fifth and final single from Bedtime Stories was Human Nature. Taking inspiration from the New Jack Swing movement, at the time lead by its princess Aaliyah, Madonna sits steady on top of a hard groove on a song of empowerment, answering her critics from the Erotica era with the sassy refrain, "...and I'm not sorry. It's human nature." The rest of the album is really where the meat is though. From the opening, smooth wave of Survival, the disillusioned little girl of Inside of Me, and the call to the dance floor of Don't Stop, Madonna's journey is one of joy, inner peace and acceptance. Perhaps one of her strongest ballads ever, Forbidden Love (not to be confused with the song of the same name from Confessions on a Dance Floor) also recorded with Babyface, was somehow not released as a single. TRAVESTY!!! I really don't know how that happened. Another electronic stunner from the album, and perhaps even more closely related to the Ray of Light work that would come four years later, was Sanctuary written with Dallas Austin. This song is the highlight of the album, along with Secret, in my opinion. Re-listening to Bedtime Stories really drives home the fact that Madonna can tackle almost any genre of music, even on one album. The songs still sound fresh and lovely and Madonna's voice was in fine form. It was a return to pure music, very little controversy or dialogue to get in the way. It's ultimately what Madonna is all about, stripped to her core. Enjoy the videos from Bedtime Stories below and click on the songs in the post to hear the non-singles. I can't believe it's been 20 years! Enjoy!

PREVIEW OF SEASON 7 OF THE REAL HOUSEWIVES OF ATLANTA

OOOOOOOOOH GIRL!! Looks like there is some D-R-A-M-A coming up on this next season of The Real Housewives of Atlanta. I know. SHOCKING!! /There is a mysterious "Mr. Chocolate" who is threatening to break up the "marriage" of Phaedra and her completely stable and law abiding recently convicted husband Apollo. There is some new whore Southern belle, Claudia,  in town who apparently didn't see Porsha (recently demoted to a recurring roll) drag Kenya halfway off the set of the last reunion because she is coming for her. Nene and the intolerably dull Cynthia's arranged friendship seems on the verge of falling apart. Nene goes for an Emmy with a good fake cry. Kenya has a man, but her man has a girlfriend. Kandi's mom is still being an insane old battle axe and apparently is going to have a granny fight with Todd's mom. I CAN'T KEEP UP AND IT HASN'T EVEN STARTED!!! The Real Housewives of Atlanta is back November 9th on Bravo.

MADONNA FRIDAY: THE #1 SONG 14 YEARS AGO TODAY WAS........

.......Music!! Madonna scored her 12th #1 single with the euro-tastic beats of Music. The first single from the album of the same name, Music was produced by French producer/songwriter Mirwais Ahmadzai, who has continued to work with Madonna to this day. From the opening line of "hey, Mr. DJ. Put a record on. I wanna dance with my baby" it was clear that we were not going to hear a retread of Ray of Light. This album is edgier and darker and had a very European, electro-disco feel. Music hit #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 on September 16, 2000 and remained for four consecutive weeks. It was praised by critics and fans alike as a return to simple, straightforward dance music of Madonna's early days, like Holiday and Into the Groove. The video was directed by Jonas Akerlund and featured a five-month pregnant Madonna along with besties Niki Harris and Debi Mazar and the fresh-faced comedian Sasha Baron Cohen, who was not well known in the US yet. Anyway, this song definitely changed the pop landscape upon its release and showed all the little girls riding her coattails who was still boss. Madonna. Here's Music. It really does make the people come together. Happy Madonna Friday!!

CAN LADY GAGA'S NEW JAZZ ALBUM WITH TONY BENNETT PUT HER BACK ON TOP?

There is no denying that Lady Gaga has experienced her first major dip in popularity this year. ARTPOP, while debuting at #1 and earning my critical praise, has sold dramatically less than its predecessors Born This Way, The Fame Monster and The Fame, still not reaching platinum status in the US. Her tour ArtRave: The ARTPOP Ball is currently spanning the globe until November and doing decent numbers, but Gaga has lost some steam. Whether it be over-saturation or people just being tired of the hype and costumes, Lady Gaga is not what she used to be. Then along comes something different. Something less shocking and more, dare we say, traditional. Lady Gaga teams up with one of her idols, Tony Bennett, for Cheek to Cheek, an album of jazz standards by the likes of George Gershwin, Cole Porter and Irving Berlin, among others. A series of videos of the two singing live and an acclaimed performance at Lincoln Center seems to be helping Gaga earn back a little respect and some of that glitter she shed this past year. The album topped both the Jazz Album chart and the all-important Billboard 200 album chart. Time will tell if Gaga can carry this over to her own music and regain momentum. It's not unusual for an artist to get some backlash now and then, so here's hoping Lady Gaga can ride this back to the top. Here are a couple of videos of Lady Gaga and Tony Bennett nailing it. Watch! And get Cheek to Cheek now in iTunes.

THROWBACK THURSDAY: COLOR ME BADD

So bad they needed two "D"s. Color Me Badd was, without a doubt, a popular group in 1991 and 1992. They had a hit album, C.M.B., two consecutive #1 singles and six Hot 100 hits off their debut album. Then nothing. What happened? Where did they go? Who the hell cares? All I know is that these four boys from Oklahoma City (L to R: Braids Guy, Bizarro Kenny G, Bizarro George Michael and Bizarro Vanilla Ice.....I don't know their real names and can't muster the energy to care) harmonized their was to the top of the charts and the panties of girls who had completely given up on their standards. Ah, the 90s. Nevertheless, their songs did hit a nerve with the record-buying public and their debut single, I Wanna Sex You Up, hit #2 on the Billboard Hot 100 in the summer of 1991, spending four weeks there and eventually becoming the #2 song of 1991. Following that success the band scored two #1 singles in a row with I Adore Mi Amor (2 weeks in the fall) and All 4 Love (one week in January 1992). The album C.M.B. birthed three more Hot 100 songs with Thinkin' Back (#13) Heartbreaker (#57) and Slow Motion (#15) but Color Me Badd never really caught fire again. They had some more Hot 100 singles, and ever one top 20 hit with The Earth, The Sun, The Rain (#19, 1996) but that was it from the boys. Two of the members (Vanilla Ice and George Michael) reemerged in 2010 to tour as Color Me Badd, but....well....yeah. Let's just say they did not age very well. ANYHOO, don't dwell on that. Here are the three big barn burners that Color Me Badd graced us with in the early 90s. These videos are GOLD!! And yes, I will admit, these songs are pretty much jams. There. I said it. Enjoy and throwback some Thursday!

HUMPDAY SEXY SONG: IF - JANET JACKSON

Janet Jackson's image was drastically changed with the release of 1993's janet.  No long just the cute little sister next door, Janet was now a sexual, empowered woman willing to tell you exactly what she wanted. The second single from the smash album was If.  Overtly sexual lyrics ("your smooth and shiny feels so good against my lips, sugar") and raunchy dance moves set the mood for one of Janet's most distinctive and celebrated videos of all time. Directed by Dominic Sena and choreographed by Tina Landon, the clip is set in an Asian club where people flirt virtually through computer screens and hook up in the back,  If also highlights some of Janet's most iconic dance moves. The track hit #4 on the Billboard Hot 100 and #1 on the Hot Dance Club Play chart. Most definitely one of Janet's biggest hits, If is probably her sexiest as well. Check out the clip and, just to keep in in theme, hump something Asian.
